To start using SWAY, you’ll need at least a GPS receiver connected to your NMEA2000 or a compatible network.

In many cases, this GPS receiver is already built into your chartplotter or AIS receiver, but it will also work perfectly with a dedicated GPS receiver.

If your GPS is connected to the NMEA2000 network, you can plug in your SWAY directly using a T-connector.
If you’re using a different network type, you may need an adapter cable.
For example, we offer a SeaTalkNG adapter on our website.
For other systems, it’s best to check with your local marine electronics store for the correct cable.

If you’re using a converter from an older network (such as NMEA 0183), make sure that the GPS data is shared on the NMEA2000 network.
SWAY requires at minimum the position, time, and date to function properly.

In technical terms, these correspond to:
PGN 126992 or PGN 129029.
